This is a Opel/Vauxhall petrol engine made by GM. It boasts a 1.6-litre displacement and is a naturally aspirated inline-four unit. In terms of Opel/Vauxhall categorisation, the A16XER falls under the Ecotec family. First introduced back in 2008, the A16XER petrol motor was fitted into the smaller Astra cars of the time. It provided decent performance for city driving and above-average fuel economy.
This motor has 16 valves, dual overhead cams (DOHC), and an MPI (multi-point injection) system. Stock, the A16XER develops 85 kW of power at 6,000 RPM and 155 Nm of torque, so it’s clearly oriented towards city traffic and shorter journeys in mixed roads.
Despite being not very powerful or unique, the A16XER is quite robust and durable. Some reports emphasise the weaknesses of this motor as timing belt wear (excessive), oil leaks from gaskets, and throttle body issues. These are some of the more common reasons why our clients look for quality used or rebuilt A16XER Opel/Vauxhall engines.
