About the AXE Engine – Specs & Technical Data

The AXE is a 2.5-litre diesel engine from VAG. It was introduced back in the early 2000s. The architecture of the engine uses a turbocharger and has a unique five cylinder (inline) composition. Most commonly, the AXE motor was fitted to VW vans like the T5 Transporter and the Caravelle. The engine was suited for passenger or cargo transport in both urban and highway travel.

This unit could develop 96 or 128 kW of power from the factory and had the TDI label. The earlier version is a DOHC Pumpe Duse (unit injector technology) engine with 10 valves.

Peak torque is 340 or 400 Nm for the newer variant, making the AXE dynamic in various driving conditions. AXE is Euro 4 compliant, meaning decent emissions, even by today’s standards.
