About the D5244T4 Engine – Specs & Technical Data

If you know something about engine codes, you could almost immediately tell that the D5244T4 is a Volvo engine, and you’d be right. This is a 2.4-litre inline-five diesel motor with a single turbo. This is a D5 engine which entered production in the mid to late 2000s. Over time it has become one of the more popular Volvo units, appearing in the S60, S80, V70, XC70, XC90 cars from the Swedish manufacturer.

Stock, the D5244T4 delivers 136 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque. It is a DOHC 20-valve motor with CRDI (Common-Rail Direct Injection) and a VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger). Thanks to a compression ratio of 17.0:1, it returns decent fuel economy while remaining quite torquey in the low rev range.

Most common issues with this motor include excessive turbo wear and EGR valve as well as DPF problems. Used D5244T4 Volvo diesels should be well maintained to avoid these problems.
