About the EE20 Engine – Specs & Technical Data

The code EE20 denotes a special Subaru engine. Why is it special? It was Subaru’s first-ever diesel, presented in 2008. The EE20 is a 2.0-litre flat-four (BOXER) diesel engine with a single turbocharger. When it was released, the engine was fitted to some of Subaru’s best-selling cars: Forester, Outback, and Legacy.

As far as numbers go, the EE20 is a good first attempt from Subaru. It delivers 110 kW and 350 Nm of torque at 1,800-2,400 RPM. In addition, it stays true to Subaru engines’ unique BOXER layout, having a low centre of gravity.

Interesting technological aspects of the engine include common-rail direct injection and a VGT (variable geometry turbo). Despite solid fuel economy, the EE20 is known to have DPF-related clogging issues and turbo failure, which were more prevalent in earlier versions.
