The M52B25 is a 2.5 liter variation of the engine series, made in an inline-six configuration, running on petrol. This particular variation wasn’t very long-lasting and was only produced between 1995 and 2000. The most popular car equipped with it was E36 323i. No turbos mean smooth power delivery all over the range.
An interesting technical nuance is that earlier versions used a Nikasil lining inside the block, with later ones switching to steel (so they are more sought after). The M52B25 is a VANOS, DOCH engine with 24 total valves. Maximum power output is 125 kW at 5,500 RPM and 245 Nm of torque. Even though it won’t rank amongst BMW engines with longest production runs, the M52B25 gets high praise from petrolheads. Reliability issues with cooling and oil leaks from valve gaskets are the top concerns.
