First introduced in 2009 as a replacement to the previous N54, the N55B30A variant has been fitted to the likes of the F30 335i, F10 535i, and X5 35i SUVs, as well as the 740i and 640i cars. The most notable addition is the M235i, which also uses the same addition.

The DOHC 24-valve engine has twin turbos, generating a high power output (225-240 kW) and up to 400+ Nm of torque with immense tuning capabilities. Being a petrol engine, you wouldn’t expect it to generate such immense torque at such a low range, yet it does. Fuel economy is average, but driving dynamics and comfort are of the highest standard.

The most common issues with the N55B30A 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinders include high-pressure fuel pump failure, injector problems and oil leaks. Sometimes, the most financially secure option is to buy a quality used engine from Orbi Motors instead of repairs!
