About the N57S Engine – Specs & Technical Data

Introduced back in 2012, the N57S is a unique engine of the N57 family as it has 3 total turbochargers. As a part of the N57 family, the N57s was fitted in many different Bavarian car models:

X5 40xD (E70)
X6 40xD (E71)
740xD (F01)
535xD (F10)
F07 GT 5er

This particular engine would produce 220 or 225 kW and an astonishing 740 Nm of torque at 2,000-3,000 RPM range. This makes for superb acceleration in the lower range and a punchy getaway from the line.

The N57S turbo configuration is the key to its performance. It has 2 smaller high-pressure turbos and one large low-pressure turbo, minimizing turbo lag and optimizing power delivery. It also features common-rail direct injection with 2,200 bar of pressure, improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.

Early models of the N57S were known to have issues with the turbo and timing chains. This is why used N57S engines in good condition are in high demand.
